The Goa Football Development Council in association with Myles High BakeHouse organised a Children’s Day event on 14th November 2012 with a jog for life and a football penalty shootout tournament for school children . The Chairman of GFDC Dr. Rufino Monteiro flagged-off the jog for life, which was held in the Patto area of Panjim.
Police Personnel and an Ambulance accompanied the children throughout the jog for life. The penalty shootout was kick-started by Dr. Rufino Monteiro and Mr Elvis Gomes with Mr Andrew Dias as goalkeeper. The penalty shootout tournament began soon after with a total of 12 teams which included 8 boys teams and 4 girls teams.
The tournament was won by the boys of Don Bosco High School–Panjim and the Rosary High School-Dona Paula in the girls category. RJ Savio Noronha kept the event lively with lot of interaction with children by testing their football knowledge with questions. There was a 5 minute on the spot Zumba dance session led by Cecil which was well received by the participants and all present. The dignitaries present were Dr. Rufino Monterio the chairman of GFDC, Mr. Elvis Gomes Member Secretary and Executive Director SAG, Mr. Andrew Dias and Mrs Tina Fernandes Directors of Myles High Bake House, Dr. Manoj Borkar of Carmel College – Nuvem ,GFDC members Mr. Shantaram Naik & Mr. Sheikh Suleman Karol and Mr. Prashant Timblo . Dr. Rufino addressing the children asked them to be focused on the game if they wanted to achieve excellence and promised them all help from GFDC to attain their goal , as grass-root development of football is the primary aim of the government through GFDC . They , then , handed out the trophies and medals to the Winners and the Runners-up. Certificates were given to all the participants.
